The Yankees gathered for a trip through the Canyon of Heroes Friday, celebrating their World Series victory with more than a million of their closest friends.
Ticker tape flowed from the sky - as did newspaper, toilet paper and just about any other kind of paper you could think of - while the Bombers were hailed as the city's latest sports heroes by their adoring fans.

There will be a banner flapping above the place soon enough, and the Yanks will get their rings near home plate, and fans will be talking about that championship won in 2009, about Mariano Rivera and Hideki Matsui and all the others.
The new Yankee Stadium has a baseball history now, to go along with the rough birthing that led to this moment in time.
Only three other teams - the 1912 Red Sox , the 1923 Yankees and the 2006 Cardinals - won titles in the first seasons in their ballparks.

Seven New York City school teachers were recently honored with the first annual Sloan Awards for Excellence in Teaching Science and Mathematics.
The award, sponsored by the Fund for the City of New York and the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation , is given to high school teachers who inspire students to pursue careers in science and mathematics.
Teachers receive awards ranging from $5,000 to $7,500, while their schools get $2,500 for their science or math programs.

A down-on-his-luck Derek Jeter was wandering the Coney Island boardwalk on Thursday afternoon, but it was all for show -- the Yankees captain is playing himself in the upcoming movie "The Other Guys."
According to a synopsis in the New York Post, Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg play police officers who are taken off the streets after Wahlberg's character wrongly shoots Jeter in the leg after seeing him walk around with a bat.
